Installed EAW on build 5270 Install went ok but when I go play the game it continues to say that DirectX needs to update and launches the DirectX install, it looks as though nothing installs the gives a finish successfully. I click the OK button and it goes back to the launch play screen. I have a Nvidia 6800 GT card using the video drivers that came with 5270. Any suggestions? Thanks

Star Wars -Empire at War
DirectX has this ability even on XP not to tell the user when it's updated or not. If I had DirectX 9c on my laptop and the game required DirectX 8 and tried to install it, it would immediately say something along the lines of "DirectX installation completed", even though it actually hasn't done anything because you've got a higher version.
I see this as a bug in DirectX rather than Vista. Might sound strange, but try and uninstall DirectX completely, and then install the version that comes with the game and see if anything changes.

Well this sounds like a bug with EAW, not bothering to do a proper version check, but even if that worked a lot of games are having problems at the moment because the video drivers are still very early.
I've got Morrowind working so far- but minus any textures in the world. :-)
